Women's Family Support Worker
Impact Family Services recognised a need to provide support services for women and was successful in gaining funding from Northern Rock Foundation in 2008. This funding will provide services such as individual and group work and will support women and children who are accessing our Child Contact Centre's.
The aim of the Women's Worker is to support women during the transitional period following separation and/or divorce. The
support is based around women's own individual issues and needs.
Some women can face issues of fear, anxiety, depression as a result of the breakdown in a relationship. The Women's Support Worker will focus on enabling women to feel better about themselves and their children, build up their self-esteem and enable them to make life plans to give them control over the situation.
The Women's Worker can offer an appointment to every women referred to the Child Contact Centre to assess her needs and give information about the support and choice of services available.
We also run the freedom program
that has been devised especially for women who have been or who still
are in abusive relationships.
As Part of Sharon's work, and in
response to requests from the women, Sharon has helped establish a peer
support group. The women meet with each other and have tea/coffee
and a chance to meet other women to chat about their experiences and
help support each other.
Last summer one of the women hosted a
BBQ and a massage/pampering session both were a huge success.
Meetings have been held in the school holidays at a soft play and
bowling centre, the children get to play and the women get to chat in a
safe happy environment.
Our Women's Worker is Sharon Kane and you can contact her on: Tel: 0191 510 3182
